Thomas ‘Tom” David Taylor, 73, of Sykesville, died Thursday, July 22, 2021 at his home.
Born March 13, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Jesse “Jay” Taylor, III and Gladys Vandergrift Taylor. He was the loving husband of Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Taylor. They had been married for 46 years.
Tom graduated Lycoming College in Pennsylvania with an Economics degree. Tom had an award-winning sales career with International Trucks and then Jeff Barnes Chevrolet. Working close to home enabled him to spend more time with family and enjoy lunch at home. Tom had belonged to business affiliations such as the South Carroll Business Association and Maryland Motor Truck Association. In retirement he stayed active with the South Carroll Senior Center and joined a fun group called Walkie Talkies, a retirement group that organized regular nature walks. For many years he formed strong friendships with The Golf Tees Sunday Group, who would tour golf courses around the area, meeting for breakfast and sharing a pint at the 19th hole. His favorite activities included golfing, cooking, traveling far and wide, and spending time at their beach home. Tom loved working outdoors around their home in Eldersburg, he prided himself on “not paying for what he could do himself.” He also enjoyed caring for dogs, taking in many dogs over his lifetime that needed a home. Tom loved a good story and, even more so, telling a funny one of the adventures he experienced throughout his life.
In addition to his wife and mother, Tom is survived by son Scott Taylor and his wife Kimberly, daughter Victoria ‘Tori’ Taylor Beacham and her husband Steven, brother Jesse Taylor, IV, sister Lynn Roberts and grandchildren Karlyn Taylor, Kaiden, Kamryn Beacham and Audrey and Sully Taylor.
