Shirley Lorraine (Guiney) Mills

Shirley Lorraine Mills , 91, of Lanham, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born September 27, 1934, in Saco, Maine, Shirley was the daughter of the late John Otis Guiney and Harriet Bell Guiney.

She graduated from Portland High School before moving to Virginia, where she began her career working at the Pentagon. After marrying and settling in Maryland, Shirley continued her career with the U.S. Government Printing Office, where she worked as a bookkeeper for 30 years. Shirley was the devoted wife of the late Robert Perry Mills, Sr., who passed away on April 22, 2023. Together, they shared 67 years of marriage and built a life centered around their family and the many memories they created together. She was also preceded in death by her half-sister, Betty Hevener.

Shirley is survived by her son, Robert P. “Rocky” Mills, Jr.; her daughter, Linda K. Boulin; her grandchildren, Kelly Leek and her husband, John, Katherine Herman and her husband, Matthew, and Emily DeYoung and her husband, Taylor; and her great-grandchildren, Trevor Lone, Mackenzie Herman, and Colton Herman.

Throughout her life, Shirley found joy in both simple pleasures and time spent with those she loved. As a teenager, she enjoyed horseback riding, and after moving to Maryland, she joined a bowling league. Some of her most treasured times were the summers spent in Ocean City, Maryland, where she and her husband owned a townhouse and created many wonderful family memories and traditions over the years. In more recent years, Shirley enjoyed playing bingo and occasionally trying her luck at the casino. Above all, Shirley will be remembered for the life she shared with her husband, the family she loved, and the many memories created over her 91 years. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia, on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
