Shirley Ginther Obituary

Shirley Ginther, 91, of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the home of her son surrounded by her loving family. Born March 7, 1935 in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late James V. and Ida Conway Rose. Shirley had worked at Ost and Ost as a bookkeeper for more than 20 years then worked at John S. Clarke Elementary School as a lunch aid. Through her 40 years serving as an Avon representative, she took pride in becoming fast friends with all her clients. Shirley touched many lives with her fun-loving spirit and a warm, welcoming nature that drew people to her. Shirley was everyone’s friend – to know Shirley was to love Shirley. She was known to love a hot dog from Coney Island and Yuengling beer (having lived a few miles from the brewery her entire life). She was the life of the party at every turn. She enjoyed going on family vacations to Deep Creek Lake and Ocean City, Maryland, and even traveled to Germany to see the historic castles. Shirley loved soaking up the sunshine and visiting family and friends (and their dogs). She also loved to garden, as long as it wasn’t too cold out. Shirley was an avid reader – she read thousands of books and was never without her Kindle. She was a devout Catholic and member of the Church of Saint Patrick in Pottsville. Shirley is survived by son Mike Ginther (Sandy) Maryland, sister Esther Runkle of Pottsville, PA, grandchildren Ashley Moore-Greco (Steven), Michael Ginther (Hannah Braun), great granddaughter Natalie Rose Moore, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion of 30 plus years, Fred Kamp; three brothers, James Rose Jr., Franklin Rose, William Rose; and one sister Marie Letcher. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
