Robert LeRoy Tabler, Jr., 86, of Sykesville, died peacefully at his home on January 16, 2022. Born October 22, 1935 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late R. LeRoy Tabler, Sr. and the late Agnes Amelia Hall Tabler. He was the loving husband of Sue Ann Allport Tabler, having just celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary in August.
In addition to his wife, Sue Ann, Robert is survived by his daughter, Deborah Lynn Tabler Mathews, son-in-law, Paul Bryan Mathews, grandchildren Parker Tabler Mathews and Emma Tabler Mathews, brother, the Rev. Dr. Donald Tabler and his wife Joy, brother-in-law, David Allport and sister-in-law, the Rev. Linda Allport Warehime and brother-in-law, the Rev. William Warehime, and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was a retired Real Estate and Insurance broker and home builder. He graduated from Sykesville High School in 1954 and the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1957. He worked as a licensed funeral director before entering the U.S. Army in 1958 and after an honorable discharge he returned to his work as a mortician. In 1967, Robert became a licensed real estate agent in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He was honored to be Realtor of the Year twice for Carroll County and a past president of the Carroll County Board of Realtors. He was also a funeral assistant for many years with the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home.
Robert was dedicated to volunteer service to his community. He served as president of the ARC of Carroll County, Carroll County Cancer Society, the National Duckpin Bowling Association. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and past president of the Rotary Club, and a charter member of the Freedom Jaycees. And Robert served as the administrative council chairperson and trustee at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Robert’s sense of duty led him to freemasonry. He proudly served as a member of Freedom Masonic Lodge #112 AF & AM for over 60 years, and was a member of the Boumi Temple 100 Club. And Robert was called to service with his election to the Republian Central Committee and appointment to the Liquor Board for Carroll County.
Robert enjoyed traveling with his wife and especially their annual “snowbird” adventure to Florida. He enjoyed watching the Ravens and Orioles games. Robert always had time for his family and could talk freely and sincerely with any person he met.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 20th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, Maryland where a funeral service will be held Friday, January 21st at 11:00 AM with his brother officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery with military honors. The family requests masks or facial coverings be worn during the visitation and funeral service. A masonic memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, 7:30 PM, at the funeral home.
