Robert ‘Bob’ Earl Jones, 86, of Sykesville, MD died Thursday, November 10, 2022, at his home with his loving wife Ellen by his side.
Born April 5, 1936 in Collins, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Abner Clark Jones, Sr. and Lessie Williamson Jones. He was the loving and devoted husband of 57 years to Ellen Miller Jones.
He graduated from Vigor High School located in Mobile, Alabama in 1954. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and served for nine years. He was stationed in places such as Germany, Tripoli, Crete, and Japan. After his honorable discharge he began a new career at the National Security Agency in 1965 and retired in 1993.
Bob was a ‘jack of all trades’ and shared his talents and abilities with family and friends. He loved gardening, fishing, volleyball, watching the Orioles, Ravens, Alabama football and his grandchildren play sports.
He was a quiet and giving man with a pleasant sense of humor and quick wit. He dearly loved his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Ellen, Bob is survived by daughters Melanie Ricks and Jennifer Lewis and her husband Brad, son Steven Jones and his wife Kim, sister Sara Ann Smallwood, grandchildren Spenser, Preston, Jackson, Mackenzie, Blakeley, Molly and Saar, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Abner C. Jones, Jr.
A celebration of life date and time will be given at a later date.
In lieu of flowers sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the USO.
