Rita Bonin Obituary

Rita Claire Bonin (née Langlais), 91, of Westminster, died Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born December 17, 1928, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Rita was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lillian Miron Langlais. She was the wife of the late Raymond W. Bonin, who died on March 26, 2005. They were married on July 18, 1953, in Haverhill, MA, and raised five sons together during their nearly 52 years of marriage. Rita was an office administrative assistant for six years after graduating from Haverhill High School in June 1946. Subsequently, she was a homemaker and worked at the Westminster Library for ten years. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, and playing dominoes. Her family knew her to be an expert at jigsaw puzzles and an avid crocheter; they treasure the distinctive zigzag-patterned afghans she made for them over the years. Rita was a member of a book club at Carroll Lutheran Village and attended public lectures at McDaniel College. She enjoyed spending time with her large family, and was a devoted parishioner at St. John’s Catholic Church. Rita is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Deborah Bonin, Keith and Marian Bonin, Neil and Jane Bonin, Lee and Jessica Bonin, and Thomas and Deborah Bonin, as well as ten grandchildren and one great-grandson. She is also survived by her sisters Jackie Barlow and Priscilla Millette, both of Florida. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Garrett Raymond Bonin. Funeral services and interment will be private. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784 is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to Carroll Lutheran Village, Attn: Philanthropy Department, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158 or to Catholic Charities, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
