Richard Nelson ‘Dick’ Bennett, 78, of Sykesville, died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Dove House in Westminster.
Born April 17, 1937 in Halethorpe, he was the son of the late John Clinton and Edna Doris Brown Bennett. He was the husband of Betty Lee Bennett. They had been married for 56 years.
He had worked in technical sales for 24 years with the National Instrument Company. Prior to that he had obtained his journeyman machinist accreditation. He then went to work as a line mechanic for Calvert Distillery, Schaefer Brewing and Noxell. It was at the aforementioned places where he learned the technical skills and ideas that led to his 17 patents involved with packaging machinery designs. Besides his family, he loved cats, driving to Florida and his classic Corvette. He was a longtime member of Halethorpe-Relay United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law Mark C. Bennett and Brenda, daughter and son-in-law Leann F. Stallings and Wesley, brothers Philip Bennett and Roy Bopst.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home & Monument Company, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM, at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Claire Fiedler, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
