Renner Keith O'Brien Obituary

< Renner Keith O’Brien, 18, of Sykesville, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Born May 22, 2008, in Columbia, Renner was the beloved son of Kristyn Marie Barbour O’Brien and Vincent Keith O’Brien.

Renner was a gentle giant in every sense of the word. Though he was strong in stature, it was his enormous heart that truly defined him. He had a kindness and warmth about him that made people feel comfortable and cared for, and he had a special way of making those around him smile. Renner was especially wonderful with children, and his patience, playfulness, and genuine love for them were a reflection of the beautiful person he was. He had a special bond with his niece and younger brothers. Those who knew Renner will remember his big heart, his gentle nature, and the way he cared for the people around him. He loved driving, playing video games, and spending time with the people he loved. He had recently graduated from Liberty High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team, and the Carroll County Career and Technology Center, where he studied Applied Mechanical Engineering. Renner was a young man with so much life ahead of him, and his loss leaves an unimaginable emptiness for the many people who loved him. He will be remembered not only for the things he enjoyed, but for the kind of person he was — loving, gentle, funny, caring, and always willing to be there for someone else.

In addition to his parents, Renner is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Rachel Rosiak-Campbell and Kevin Campbell; his niece, Eleanor; his stepmother and brothers, Jessica O'Brien, Mason, and Landen; his maternal grandmother, Mary Barbour; and his paternal grandmother, Marcell O'Brien. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

His life was far too short, but the love he gave and the mark he left on those around him will remain forever. The family is currently looking at ways to carry Renner's memory forward by supporting mental health awareness, advocacy, and support for young adults and the families who love them. Until a memorial is established, in lieu of flowers and donations, we ask everyone to carry a vital reminder in your hearts: Remember that we rarely know what is happening beneath the surface with those around us. You never truly know the hidden battles others are fighting. Let us choose compassion over judgment and kindness above all else. Please, hug your loved ones close tonight, and never let a day pass without telling them you love them, regardless of life's daily struggles.

The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
