Mary Ryan Obituary

Mary Miller Ryan, 62, of Eldersburg, Md. passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2021. Born November 27, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Baltimore MD, daughter of the late Charles and Julia Lindner. She is survived by her husband Tracy Ryan, brothers Rick Lindner New Mexico and John Lindner Baltimore, nieces Morgan Lindner, Paje Lindner and Emily Lindner, and great niece Dunia Lindner. Also, former husband Donald Miller. Mary Miller Ryan was one of those warmly congenial individuals with a delightful smile and an infectious laugh and a knack for bringing people together who likely otherwise would never meet. She put those characteristics to good use upon retiring in 2013 from the National Security Agency (NSA) after 37 years of federal service, helping defend the nation. Along the way during her career, she also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland University College. Because of her outgoing nature and concern for others, Mary devoted her retirement years to cultivating a wide network of friends and helping those in need through starting the Salvation Army’s Adopt-a-Family program on the Eldersburg Online Community (EOC). She was for many years an EOC administrator. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and did weekly grocery shopping for those who were not able to shop for themselves. Mary loved her dogs, Max, Maggie, and Macy, and she was also actively involved in raising support for area animal rescue programs and rescued several dogs over the years. Mary was much loved by many, many friends, new and old, throughout Carroll and Howard counties. She maintained close contact over many years through regular lunches, birthday celebrations and other events for a few or a dozen. She was also known for often providing emotional, and other support in times of need. She loved to give personalized gifts to her friends and often came as a surprise at just the right moments. Her loss is felt deeply by so many who knew and loved her. There will be a celebration of life service on Friday, Oct. 29, at 12:00 pm at the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department Legacy Hall, 6680 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, Maryland. A reception will follow the service at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s name are encouraged to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
