Mark Updike beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on July 25th 2025. He was born in Lynchburg Virginia to Robert L Updike and Marian D Aitcheson. Mark lived a life full of love, dedication, and a passion for mechanical ingenuity as a teenager. Mark enjoyed riding his bicycle between Beltsville and Norfolk Virginia to visit family. He had a lifelong love of antique automobiles and sports cars and possessed a remarkable talent for designing building and operating mechanical systems. This passion guided his career as a mechanical engineer working with various contractors before serving with the Architect of the Capitol and later with Marriott Corporation. Mark was a successful businessman who took pride in his work and the projects he brought to life. Mark was married to Mary Ann Updike for 64 wonderful years sharing a lifetime of memories and partnership. He is survived by his brother Jim Updike and wife Sally of Fort Collins Colorado; brother-in-law Norman C Steele and wife Carla of College Park Maryland; his son Carl Updike and wife Julie of Sykesville Maryland and cherished grandchildren James, Chrissy and Leo. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Updike and surviving wife Sally of San Francisco California. Known for his helpful nature and willingness to share stories, Mark was no stranger to hard physical labor and he enjoyed spending time outdoors doing what he loved. His warmth, kindness and devotion to family and friends will be deeply missed. Details about a memorial service will be shared with family and friends. The Jeffrey N.
