Madge Keefer Obituary

Madge Elizabeth Keefer, 91, of Westminster, MD passed away peacefully at Diven House at Carroll Lutheran Village, in Westminster on October 6, 2023. Born on March 6, 1932 in Woodbine, MD, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Robert Fowble and Mary Elizabeth (Fleming) Fowble. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Dale Keefer of 69 years. Madge graduated from Sykesville High School in 1949. She became a bookkeeper for Chipley and Sons who was bought out by A.G. Parrott Equipment Company. When she married Dale in 1951, she became a housewife. Later she worked for the Carroll County Public Schools as a cafeteria worker at Sykesville School which at that time consisted of elementary, middle and high school levels. Her daughter remembers the students recognizing her as the "ice cream lady." She did return to bookkeeping and worked at Sykesville Federal in downtown Sykesville. She stayed with them when they moved to Eldersburg, which is currently Farmers & Merchants, until her retirement. She enjoyed, along with Dale, watching and taking bus trips to Memorial Stadium to see the Orioles. Madge had been a member of the Freedom District Lions Club which she joined along with her daughter in January 1999. She received the recognition of a Melvin Jones Fellow which is the highest honor a Lion can receive. While in Lions, Madge and Dale travelled to Hawaii, Colorado, other states and Canada to participate in the International Conventions as well as to see a Lion from the Multiple District become International President. After moving to Carroll Lutheran Village, Madge became a member of the Taneytown Lions Club. Because of not being able to continue her Lions' activities, she resigned from the club. Both Madge and Dale truly believed in the Lions motto "We Serve." She was a long-time member of Gaither United Methodist Church in Gaither. Even after the move to Carroll Lutheran Village, Madge and Dale attended the services at Gaither until they couldn't make those trips on Sunday. She was a much-loved wife, mother and grandmother. Madge was known for being caring towards others and she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Surviving her are daughter, Pauline Rosier and husband Charles, grandchildren, Kimberly Rosier and Robert Rosier and wife Megan. Funeral services will be at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Viewing will be on Tuesday, October 10 from 5 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 11 at 11 am.
