Karyn A. Brandel, 46, of Eldersburg, Maryland died Tuesday, September 17, 2024, with her family by her side, at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia, Maryland. Born on Long Island, New York, she was the loving daughter of Michael and Helen Cavallo. Karyn was the devoted wife of 21 years to Thomas Brandel. They were married on July 19, 2003. Karyn was a special education teacher and team leader at Cradlerock Elementary School in Howard County for almost 20 years. She enjoyed attending her children’s sporting events. Karyn always made sure her family, coworkers and students had what they needed to be successful. Karyn earned her Bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University and her Master’s Degree from Dowling College. In addition to her parents and husband, Karyn is survived by children Thomas, Matthew and Katie Brandel, her in-laws Peter and Susan Brandel, sister Donna Perez (Ed Perez), in-law siblings: Peter (Jacqueline), Steven, Daniel (Brittany), Kevin (Kristen) and loving Aunt to her Nieces and Nephews: Elianna, Deanna, James Peter (JP), Molly, Ryan, Hannah, Jack, Chase, Connor, Logan, Nicholas and Shane. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 23, 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 915 Liberty Road, Sykesville, Maryland. Interment will follow in Freedom Cemetery. Following the interment a celebration of life party will be held at Stratosphere Social, 1332 Londontown Blvd, Eldersburg, MD 21784 from 1-4 PM.
