John (Jack) Edward Mounts passed away June 17 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He is survived by his wife Stephanie, a son Brian, sister-in-law’s, Deborah and Charlene and their families, a step sister, Marie, and two step brothers, Len and Dave. Jack was born in 1930, the son of John F. and Juanita H. Mounts, in Washington, PA. His philosophy was “to go as hard as I can for as long as I can and, if something gets in the way, deal with it.” After graduating from Washington High School in 1948 and Penn State, in 1952, with a BA in Journalism, he served two years in the Army during Korea, training with the 101st Airborne. In 1976, he began a 20-year career with the Federal Government, National Center for Health Statistics, heading departments for publications, customer relations and was the Deputy Director for the National Health Interview Survey. During the 1980’s, he also was Chair of the Federal Publishers Committee, whose members were from throughout the Government. Jack loved a wide variety of music, having acquired his interest from playing the trumpet during high school and as a member of the Penn State Blue Band. In his 40s he began horseback riding, along with his wife, Stephanie, and participated in jumping and equestrian competitions. They also traveled throughout the United States and to England, Scotland, Italy and Sicily. He loved to travel. In 2004 Jack and Stephanie moved from a four-acre farmette in Howard County, MD, to the Falls Run Community in Fredericksburg, VA, where he was very active serving on the Board of Directors and as a member and chair of various committees. He contributed extensively to the Community’s processes and methods of operations. The family will gather June 20, 2024 for a private viewing at Jeffrey N.
