Gaither Becker, 88, of Sykesville, died Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 15, 1936 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edward Austin and Emily Catherine Waters Becker. He was the devoted husband of Betty J. Becker. They were married for 65 years. He had retired as a self-employed automobile appraiser. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. In his younger days he enjoyed golfing. He was a member of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church and loved to spread the word of the Lord. He was also a longtime member of Freedom Masonic Lodge #112 AF & AM in Sykesville. He was very proud of his family and his Native American heritage. He was the last of his immediate family. In addition to his wife Betty, Gaither is survived by children Robin Calambro (Philip), Kathy Hardesty (Keith), Grant Becker (late Patricia Nylin-Becker), grandchildren Devin Connor (Matthew), Chelsea Calambro, Matthew Hardesty (Natalie), Lindsay Chasen (Kyle) and Kendall Hardesty and great grandchild Chloe Connor. He was the brother to the late Edward, Jr. (Reds), Daniel, Philip, Robert, Donald, William, Emily, Shirley, Helen and Catherine. He is also survived by sister-in-law Esther Becker. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews, and 19 great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home 6028 Sykesville Road in Eldersburg on Sunday, February 9 from 1-4 pm. A Masonic Memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home, 1:30 PM on Sunday. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Freedom Cemetery with military honors.
