Elizabeth Brierley (Brierley) Carroll

Elizabeth (Bidy) Brierley Carroll, 94, of Catonsville, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Caton Woods Assisted Living in Charlestown Village. Born January 14, 1931, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Foy and Elizabeth Brierley Williams. Bidy was a Maryland resident in Baltimore and Carroll County’s all her life. She graduated from Eastern High School. She then went on to graduate from Union Memorial School of Nursing in Baltimore in 1952 as a registered nurse and proudly announced to all who would listen that she “was the 1st girl baby born in 1931 at Union Memorial Hospital and she was the 1st baby born at Union Memorial to also graduate from the school of Nursing at Union Memorial Hospital.” She also earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore. Her nursing career started in private duty at the St. Paul’s School and then moved into corporate nursing at Esskay Meat Packing Co. through the early 1960’s. In 1964 she joined the medical department of the C& P Telephone Company where she served as the Staff Nurse at the Shawan Road facility and then moved downtown to the corporate offices in the capacity of Employee Assistance Program Director until her retirement in 1989. Bidy loved sports, she played golf and tennis in school and loved the Colts, Ravens and Terps. She also served as the on-field nurse for the Baltimore Colts from 1958 to 1963. Bidy was preceded in death by sisters Ellen Stauffer, and Jane Johnston. She is survived by sons Bruce M Burdette, David T Burdette and his wife Christina; granddaughters Morgan Dieter and her husband Patrick Dieter, Brierley Burdette, Karly Burdette, Kendall Serrato and her husband Ezekiel; great grandsons Sean Dieter and Ezekiel Serrato; great granddaughters Flynn Dieter and Kayleigh Serrato as well as many nieces and nephews from the Johnston and Stauffer families. Funeral services and interment will be private. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home 6028 Sykesville Road in Eldersburg is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
