Elizabeth B.’Betty’ Arnold, 96, of Sykesville, died Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Fairhaven.
Born September 16, 1926 in Gamber on the Buckingham farm, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Virgia Mae Shipley Buckingham. She was the wife of the late of Charles William Arnold who died August 27, 2019. They had been married for 71 years. Arnold.
She had retired as a manager at Union National Bank where she was the first female employee. Betty started her banking career at Sykesville State Bank. She was a charter life member of Gamber Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary where her and her late husband would help with many different events held by the fire company. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She also looked forward to attending numerous church oyster and turkey dinners in the surrounding counties. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with his family. She was the last of her immediate family.
Betty survived by daughters Jean Mapes, Charlene Stem and husband Bill, grandchildren Erik Mapes and wife Michelle, Scott Mapes and wife Kerri, Melanie Halsey and husband Douglas, Heather Rouzer and husband Christopher, great grand children Mikayla, Haley, Chase, Aiden, Brayden, Brynley, Brynn, Brooke, James, Amber and Madison and great great grandchildren William, Carolynn and Alex. She was preceded in death by son-in-law Andy Mapes, and siblings John Buckingham and Hilda Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023, 11:00 AM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg with her pastor, Rev. Beth Hutton, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
