Edward Wayne Long, 85, of Sykesville, died Thursday, July 31, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 1, 1940 in Annapolis, he was the son of the late Drexel and Annie Louise Hunley Long. He was the devoted husband to Demetra Long. They had been married for almost 63 years. Ed had retired as a Data Systems Operations Chief for the National Security Agency (NSA). He was a veteran of The U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Ed was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He was also a master gardener, loved playing pinochle, a student of genealogy and an avid traveler and chocoholic. In addition to his loving wife Demetra, Ed is survived by daughters Helene Clepper, Katherine Louise Schappell and her husband Jerry, sisters Mary Jane Colson and her husband Bob, and Linda June Koudelka, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, 11:00AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 7538 Main Street, Sykesville, MD. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
