Obituary

Edward Daniel Fahrmeier, 77, of Woodbine, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 27, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Vennus and Margaret Meisman Fahrmeier. He was the loving husband of Ruth Fahrmeier(Newman). They had been married for 54 years after meeting as graduate students at the University of Chicago. In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by daughter Rebecca Fahrmeier and her husband Michael Schmidt-Lange, brothers Ray, Howard, and Ron Fahrmeier, and grandsons Daniel and Alex. In his professional life, Ed was a Clinical Psychologist. As a young married couple, Ruth and Ed lived in Nigeria for 18 months, where Ed performed the field research for his doctorate. After post-doctoral work in New York, Ed and Ruth settled in Baltimore, where Ed taught classes at UMBC and then joined RICA, Maryland’s Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents in Catonsville, Md. Ed had many interests throughout his life, among them a love for golf, which he was able to pursue at a young age through caddying, often playing together with older brother Ray. Ed also loved to travel, and was an accomplished gardener (some would say micro-scale farmer) with a special passion for growing sweet corn. After retiring from RICA in 2009, Ed stayed active and expanded his interests by taking classes and using his artistic eye for light and shapes to pursue photography as a serious hobby. Ed also became an avid participant in live trivia competitions, and continued his lifelong interest in solving puzzles of many kinds. Ed enjoyed the activities, but even more, the connections he made with people in these communities. A small private interment was held at Serenity Ridge Cemetery, honoring Ed’s request for a green burial. A memorial gathering will be held later this spring with due notice of time and place. Before his passing, Ed recommended that if anyone was interested in making a donation in his memory, they should consider Compassion & Choices (http://compassionandchoices.org) The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.jnzumbrunfuneralhome.com.
