Doris Schneider Obituary

Doris Marie Schneider (Figgs), 77, of Ferndale, died Wednesday, February 6, 2025 at the AccentCare Hospice at Medstar Harbor Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Doris was the beloved wife of Ray Schneider for 36 years. She was a devoted mother to her children Dan and Anne Stachura, Adam and Tina Stachura and step-son Michael Schneider. Doris was dearest grandmother to Jordan Stachura and Allie Stachura. Born January 25,1948 in Baltimore, Doris was the loving daughter of the late Norman and Catherine (Thiess) Figgs, sister of Cas Meyers, Betty Shover, Norman Figgs Jr., and Mary Figgs. Doris is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by the late Xavier Stachura. Doris was called to the nursing profession and provided compassionate care throughout her career at St. Agnes, Harbor, and Mercy Hospitals. In her later career Doris transitioned to hospital administration where she continued to be a strong advocate for nurses and their patients. Doris’ home was the heart of fun and family gatherings, from wedding and baby showers to epic Superbowl parties. The basement was always filled with the sound of fun and music where everyone sang to the 45’s played on the jukebox. Holiday gatherings were her specialty, with Thanksgiving being her favorite, where the kitchen was overflowing with love, food, and the delicious homemade desserts often outnumbered the guests. Her home was always open to family and friends, both old and new. There were no strangers in her life, just new friends she hadn’t yet met. Doris adored her special times with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She loved Ocean City, enjoying the water and the warmth of the sun. She loved cruising with Ray on their boat and fishing and crabbing from their dock. The best days ended with a glass of wine, her golden retriever and Ray by her side, watching the sunset over Assawoman Bay. When Doris wasn’t entertaining others, she loved cheering on the Ravens and the Orioles. She was an avid reader, loved her crosswords and sudoku, and playing slots and Keno when she could. We love you Doris. You are our Sunshine …. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Olive Grove, 705 N. Hammonds Ferry Rd., Linthicum, MD on February 16 at 1pm.
