Doris Dorothy Rhinehart, 89, of Mt. Airy, died Friday, August 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving sons and daughters-in-laws.
Born November 27, 1933 in Baltimore, Doris was the daughter of the late Earl and Julia (Wild) Scheeler. She was the wife of the late Richard (Dick) Elwood Rhinehart who died November 11, 1982. They had been married for 24 years. Doris is survived by sons Craig R. Rhinehart and his wife Margaret, Allen R. Rhinehart and his wife Kate, sister Helen E. Starr, grandchildren Julia Rhinehart, Beth Rhinehart-Kuhl, great grandchildren Annaliese and Kurt, 3 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.
Among her professional achievements, Doris helped Dick start and build Rhinehart Railroad Construction and was the vice president of the company. She was also very active in her community. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Sykesville where she sang in the choir, played the bells, was a member of the Shawl and United Methodist Women groups and volunteered wherever needed. Doris loved to travel and play games, was an accomplished duckpin bowler, and a talented musician. She sang with the Phoenix Choir as a young adult and the Sweet Adelines in her later years. Doris’ love of travel started when she visited Iceland, The Azores and New Foundland with the USO in 1956. She also enjoyed traveling with the Sweet Adelines and organizing bus trips when she was living at Winifred Manor, where she served as the president of the condominium association for 16 years.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, 11:00AM at the funeral home, with the Rev. Samuel Moore, officiating. Entombment will be private.
