David Kuhns Obituary

David E. Kuhns, 85, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Born February 16, 1941 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Edward and Hazel Fennell Kuhns. David was the devoted husband of Ruth Kuhns, having recently celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Dave and Ruth started their family residing first in Jeannette, PA, then Greensburg. He attended California University of Pennsylvania and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. Dave began his illustrious 34-year sales career with McCormick & Company in the Pittsburgh Zone in 1966. After a series of promotions, the family relocated to Ellicott City, MD in 1981 and Dave led sales of the Baltimore-based spice company until his retirement in 2000 as Senior Vice President-Sales. Dave and Ruth traveled extensively, for both work and pleasure, all over the world. But Dave particularly loved spending time with family and friends at his vacation home in Deep Creek Lake, MD. Dave and Ruth also spent many seasons as snowbirds in N. Ft. Myers, FL.

As an enthusiastic driver, Dave enjoyed taking family and friends on many road trips. Dave was a sports fan, particularly of football, naturally growing up in Steelers Country and then following his beloved Baltimore Ravens, attending innumerable games for both teams over the years. But no pastime met his love of golf. An avid golfer for over 50 years, he was still playing multiple times per week well into his eighties. He loved the challenge, the camaraderie, and experiencing some of the best golf courses in the world. Dave lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife Ruth, David is survived by son David Kuhns, daughter and son-in-law Tracey and Dana Morgan, brothers Donald, William (Mary) and Francis Kuhns, sister Rebecca Skormisley (Ron), grandchildren Ryan and Erin Kuhns, Will and Ella Morgan, and numerous nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Edward.

Services and interment will be scheduled for a later date. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Donations in his memory can be made to PGA Hope at https://www.pgareach.org/pgahope
