Alta Marie Elswick

Alta Marie Elswick, 100 years and 4 days, died Sunday morning, July 26, 2026 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law James and Frances.

Born July 22, 1926 in Esserville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Edward and Laura Vinette Bolling Stallard. She was the devoted wife to the late Billy E. Elswick who died April 15, 2006. They had been married for 54 years.

She grew up in Jenkins, Kentucky, in a home next door to her future husband Billy Elswick. Maries life took her to Baltimore, MD, Ft. Gordon, GA and lastly to Westminster where she raised her 5 children. Alta was a homemaker. She was a fixture at the Carroll County Senior Centers where she and her husband taught line and square dancing. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and watching wildlife. Alta received a certificate of Recognition of her 100th birthday from the Maryland Centenarians Committee, Inc. May 14, 2026 was declared her day. She was a longtime member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, James E. Elswick and spouse Frances (Scott) of Westminster, MD, Laura Jane Elswick and her husband Dennis Nelson of Chincoteague, VA, son Ervin N. Elswick and spouse Lynda (Prince) of Westminster, MD, and Judy Lynn Elswick and spouse Christopher Perkins of Roanoke, VA, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by daughter Debby M. Kent and brother Coy Edward Stallard and sisters Edith Lloyd, Evelyn Elswick and Nadine Webb and Hazel Ann Gardner.

A funeral service will be held Friday, 11:00 AM, at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
