Robert ‘Bob’ Davis Wickham, 85, of Taneytown, formerly of Eldersburg, died Friday, January 11, 2019 at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital.
Born July 5, 1933 in Roanoke, Virginia, he was the son of the late William Otho and Martha Jane Davis Wickham. He was the husband of the late Mary Dell Wickham who died February 5, 2013. They had been married for over 53 years.
Bob was a Tech Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force retiring in 1973 after 20 years, including service in Korea and Viet Nam. He then worked at the family business, the Dixie Horse, and later at Champion Printing. After retiring, he devoted his time to the family, community service and traveling the country with his wife Mary Dell. Bob was an American history and angler enthusiast. He was a member of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He was a member of the Freedom District Lions Club and later the South Carroll Lioness -Lions Club. He was awarded the Lions Club’s Melvin Jones Fellow award.
Bob is survived by daughter Mary Ellen Wickham of Eldersburg, son R. David Wickham and wife Jennifer of Hanover, PA, son CMSgt (Ret) Matthew J.Wickham and his wife Masami of Hanover, PA. He is also survived by grandchildren Sean, Marie and Austin Wickham, 5 nieces, 2 nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by brother William J. Wickham.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 AM at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, 961 Johnsville Road. Eldersburg, MD with his pastor, Rev. Dr. William Brown, officiating. Internment will be in Wesley Freedom Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD where a Lions Club Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:30 PM.
