James Leo Harrington, 83, of Eldersburg, died Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Brinton Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born May 25, 1933 in Sanborn, Iowa, he was the son of the late Leo Michael and Ruth Irene Sweeney Harrington. He was the husband of Karen Harrington. They had been married for 46 years. Jim had retired as a Comptroller for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He had received a BBA in Accounting from the University of Iowa, Class of 1962. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Gold Star Post 191 in Mt. Airy, Maryland. He was an avid fan of the many sports teams of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by sons Patrick Harrington and wife Diane, Michael Harrington, daughters and sons-in-law Susan Starling and Bill, Jill Millison and Jim and Laura Lyons and Ken. He is also survived by sisters Marge Yakel and Lorrene Moermond. Also surviving are grandchildren Andrew Starling and wife Colleen, Austin Starling, Jacob Millison and wife Elle, Rachel Millison, Jack Lyons, Allie Lyons and great grandson Benjamin Starling. He was preceded in death by brothers Don and Bob Harrington and sister Mary Uhe. The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 10:00AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. William Brown, Senior Pastor of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park with military honors.
