Ina Kathleen (Blankenship) Harter

Ina Kathleen Harter, 91, of Westminster, MD died peacefully Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Peggy, with her daughter and grand-daughter by her bedside. Ina was born August 3, 1926 in Swandale, West Virginia, and was the youngest daughter of the late Braden Meadows Blankenship and Mary Elizabeth Nicholas Blankenship. Ina met the love of her life, Wilson “Bill” Thayer Harter, Sr., when she came to Baltimore to work after high school. Ina and Bill were married on November 28, 1944 and enjoyed their 64-year marriage until his death in 2008. Ina worked the majority of her career in the accounting office at Johns Hopkins Hospital in downtown Baltimore. Upon retirement in 1988 she enjoyed spending time with her family in Maryland and West Virginia; attending Sunday services at the Faith Family Church in Finksburg, Maryland; shopping with her daughter and grand-daughters; and hosting family holiday gatherings. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by daughter Peggy Cox of Charlotte Hall, MD, son Charles Harter of Hampstead, MD, 9 grandchildren - Dawn Strain (Patrick), Sandra Lee Harter, Jesse Harter, Bryan Harter (Barbara), Daniel Harter, Billy Harter, Steve Harter, Kelsey Harter and Rachel Harter, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilson Harter, Sr., son Wilson Harter, Jr., son-in-law Richard “Dick” Cox, brothers Arthur, Delmer and Cecil Blankenship, sisters Delsie McKinney, Daisy Underwood, Pearl Knight and Edna Strickland. Family will receive friends at 10:00 AM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD on Thursday, October 19, 2017 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM with her pastor, Rev. Paul Andrews, officiating. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery where she will reunite with Bill for eternal rest. Pall bearers will be Charles Harter, Bryan Harter, Zachary Stine, Ethan Strain and Patrick Strain.
