George Rought Obituary

George Benjamin Rought, 62, of Sykesville, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019. Born July 23, 1956 in Lexington, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Charles William Rought, Sr. and Vera Rose Smith Rought. He was the husband of Colleen Rought. They had been married for 25 years. George was a veteran of two armed services. He had enlisted in the U.S. Armyfor one year, and then transferred to the U.S. Air Forcewhere he retired after 21 years as a Master Sergeant. George has a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University. He then went to work for Northrop Grumman for 12 years and Lockheed Martin for 6 years. George spent his professional life as an engineer, developing defense systems to make our country a safer place. He was a patriot. He also enjoyed traveling, watching his children play sports, coin collecting and spending time with his family and his German Shepherd Kaina. George was known for his sense of humor, generosity and work ethic. In addition to his wife, George is survived by daughters Christy Sims, Mindy Rought, son George W. Rought, brother Charles W. Rought, Jr. 6 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may celebrate the life of George at the family home, 6353 Trout Stream Drive, Sykesville, Maryland, Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 4-7 PM. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD are handling funeral arrangements.
