Garland Jerome Funk, 91, of Eldersburg, died Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Carroll Hospital Center.
Born October 26, 1926 in Alberton, now Daniels area of Howard County, he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Phiffer Funk. He was the husband of Betty J. Funk. They had been married for 61 years.
He was a retired correctional officer with the Maryland Department of Corrections. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post #7472 in Ellicott City. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America working with Troop 766 in Baltimore County and Troop 110 in Eldersburg. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was the last of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife, Garland is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Kevin Brian and Kimberly Funk, David Mark and Carol Jean Funk, grandchildren Jessica and Billy Cecil, Brandon Paul and Matthew Brian Funk, Courtney Rachelle Alexander, Adam Justin Cox and Kristy and Brittany Michelle and Cody Hart. He is also survived by great grandchildren Caleb, Nathaniel, Cheyenne, Katie, Remy and Roy and former daughter-in-law Judi Funk. He was preceded in death by siblings Alvin and Lorraine Funk and Joyce Barth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 12 Noon at The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD with Chaplain Nancy Ginsburg, officiating. Internment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
