On November 28th, Charles William Hoffmeister, known as Buck, of Eldersburg, Maryland, passed after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in Baltimore on December 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles William and Mary Fuhrman Hoffmeister. He as predeceased by siblings Walter and Charlotte. He is survived by Maude Ellen, his wife of over 66 years.
Buck served in the US Army in the Korean War and was recipient of two Bronze Stars.
He was a cable splicer and technician for C&P Telephone for 45 years.
Buck was a pilot and instructor at Rutherford Airport in Woodlawn. He enjoyed boating from the family home on the Magothy River. He was a motorcycle enthusiast from youth and was a lifetime member of the Baltimore Ramblers. He supported his son, Chris, in Trials Riding competitions. Buck and Maude enjoyed camping with their grandchildren.
Buck shared the bounty from his large garden, his homemade breads, root beer, horseradish, and pickles. He delighted in giving many boxes of chocolates at Christmas, as well as his special eggnog.
Buck is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles William (Chuck) and Colleen, Chris and Hilary. Also granddaughter, Leah, and grandsons and their wives, Andy and Colleen, Karl and Lauren, and great-grandchildren Julian, Sonny, and Mallory.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 on Monday, December 3rd at Jefferey Zumbrun Funeral Home at 6028 Sykesville Rd, Eldersburg, Md. This will be followed by a graveside service at 1:00 at Lakeview Memorial Park on Liberty Road, Eldersburg.
