Rita Kathleen Medvetz (nee Smith) passed away on April 19, 2024 with her loving family by her side. Born in Canton, Ohio, Rita moved with her family to Baltimore when her father was offered a position at the Social Security Administration. Rita graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School (Woodlawn), Seton High School, and Towson University, where she earned a teaching degree. She went on to teach math in middle schools in Baltimore and Carroll counties. She received a Master’s Degree in teaching from McDaniel College and went on to earn her National Board Certification in teaching mathematics. Besides teaching middle schoolers, Rita loved to garden, cook, and work on home remodeling projects. She also loved camping and the outdoors, photography, and her loyal dogs, Mandy and Abby. Rita is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Theodore J. Medvetz, her parents Robert M. and Aileen M. (nee Morrison) Smith, and her sister Teresa M. Smith. She is survived by her beloved son Thomas M. Medvetz; her devoted daughter-in-law Danning; her precious grandchildren, Magnus and Maple; her sisters Patricia (John) Grega, Roberta Smith, Sheila (Gary) Redmond; her nieces Shannon Redmond, Tina Redmond, and Kelly (TJ) Venable; her great-nephew RJ, and her great-nieces Abby and Alia Venable. A viewing will be held at Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD at 11:00am on Monday, April 29. A funeral service, followed by an interment at Lake View Memorial Park, will begin at 12:00 noon.
