David Goetschius Obituary

David Mitchell Goetschius, 88, of Eldersburg, went home to be with His Savior on Friday, March 15, 2024 at BridgingLife Sinai surrounded by his loving family. Born November 10, 1935 in Ramsey, New Jersey, he was the son of the late James Ramsey and Ruth Mitchell Goetschius. He was the devoted husband of Carol Goetschius. They had been married for 62 years and counting. He often said, “I love her more today than ever”, and meant it. David earned a BA in Biology from Princeton University and a Masters in Theology from Dallas Seminary. He faithfully served as pastor of Grace Church of Harmony for 35 years until his retirement in 2000. David enjoyed reading and study as well as music and the arts. He loved nature and was an avid bird watcher. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He doted on his daughters, warmly accepted their husbands as sons and held his fifteen grandchildren responsible for many of his happiest moments. In addition to his wife Carol, David is survived by daughters - Gloria Crawford (Bradley), Catherine Vazquez (David), Amy Goetschius Carle (Jason), and Carrie Turzak (Michael); grandchildren - Austin, Caleb, Bethany and Hannah Crawford; Luz, Christi, Mitchell and Merri Vazquez; Kaela and Ethan Carle; and Mallory, Courtney, Ellie, Collin and Mason Turzak. Also remaining are his siblings James R. Goetschius and Paula Bartow. He was preceded in death by his brother Wesley Goetschius. He felt blessed to have such wonderful relationships on both the Goetschius and Wallis sides of the family. Services and interment will be private. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Grace Church of Harmony, PA at 4pm, Saturday March 23rd.
