Robert Milton Bare

Robert Milton Bare, 93, of Hampstead, Maryland, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his home from an extended illness. Born September 19, 1923 in Westminster, he was the son of the late Samuel D. and Hattie Young Bare. Twice married, he was the husband of the late Alice Peeling Bare who died in 1970 and Ruth Benson Bare. Robert was a graduate of New Windsor High School and served in the U.S. Army, 86th Infantry Division and the U.S. 8th Air Force during World War II. He was the founder and president of Bare Truck Center, Inc., the International truck dealer fro Carroll County from 1965 until his retirement in 2002. He also established Idealease of Central Maryland, Inc., a truck rental and leasing company. During his tenure his dealership received numerous awards for outstanding achievement, including being nominated for truck dealer of the year in 1992. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and all sports in general. He was a life long resident of Carroll County and was deeply committed to the support of numerous Carroll County charitable and educational organizations. He was past president of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, a 60 year member and Past Master of Door to Virtue #46 AF & AM Masonic Lodge, past president of the Western Maryland Shrine Club, past president of the New Windsor Alumni Association and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Upperco, Md. He was also a member of York Rite Orders of Masonry, Bee Hive Club, Westminster Jaycees, Westminster Elks Lodge 2277, life member VFW Post 467, Taneytown Old Timers Baseball Association and the Piney Branch Golf and Country Club. He was the last of his immediate family. In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters Mary Strine, Margaret Garner, Kathryn Garst, Mildred Beard, Ruth Shank and brothers David S., Charles W., Paul R., John K., Roger R. and Harold R. Bare. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, June 1, 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 15801 Trenton Road, Upperco, Maryland 21155 with pastors Rev. Michael Adams and Rev. Carl Myers officiating. Inurnment will be private. There will be no public visitation. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by the Door to Virtue Masonic Lodge prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to The Robert M. Bare Memorial Fund c/o Farmers and Merchants Bank, 25 Westminster Pike, Reisterstown, MD 21136 and will be equally distributed between St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Upperco and Christ Lutheran Church in Trenton, MD.
