Richard Wayne Pittinger, Sr., 74, of Sykesville, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center. Born December 1, 1942 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Arthur and Theda Price Pittinger. He was the husband of Patricia Faye Pittinger. They had been married for 57 years. Richard had been a diary manager for Pantry Pride stores for 22 years. He then went to work for Lance Corporation as a route manager. He was an avid train enthusiast and Volunteered at the Western Maryland Railway Historical Society in Union Bridge. Besides his love of locomotives he also enjoyed traveling, camping, motor home excursions and being with friends and family. He was a member of Freedom Masonic Lodge A.F & A.M #112 of Sykesville, a former member of Freedom District Lions Club and a longtime and faithful member of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by sons Richard Pittinger, Jr. and his wife Marilyn, Ronald Pittinger and his wife Karen, brother Charles Pittinger and his wife Karen, and sister Linda Brown. He is also survived by grandchildren Kristina Pittinger and companion Kevin Pickett, Richard Pittinger, III, Kelly Marques and husband Michael, Zachary Pittinger and wife Emily and great grandchildren Kameron, Klayton and Kassidy Pickett and Mitchell and Olivia Marques. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 11:00 AM at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, 961 Johnsville Road, Sykesville, MD with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. William Brown, officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to Western Maryland Railway Historical Society, 41 N Main St, Union Bridge, MD 21791.
