Howard Arrington Smith, Jr., 84, of Sykesville, died Monday, June 26, 2017 at his house in which he was born. Born September 15, 1932, he was the son of the late Howard A. Smith, Sr. and Edna May Brown Smith. He was the husband of B. Faye Smith. They had been married for over 60 years. He was a lifelong farmer on his ancestor’s farm named Concord. The farm was purchased by his great grandfather in 1884. The Howard Smith family has lived in the Sykesville area for 270 years. He was a member of the Sykesville Fire Department and proudly worked the carnival money stand for over 50 years. Howard Smith grew up working his farm with horses and using kerosene lamps. As a boy he enjoyed the 4-H where he showed his cattle. As a father, he was active in the Boy Scouts with his son. He especially enjoyed the Pinewood derby where his cars usually won. As a grandfather he spent many hours watching his grandson’s baseball games and soccer matches and never missed one. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law Valerie and Dean Livesay, son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey Smith and Teresa all of Sykesville, grandsons Clifton Livesay and wife Emily and Keith Smith of Sykesville, Kyle Smith and wife First Lieutenant Jasmine McCormick of Killeen, Texas, great grandson Dade Livesay and cousin Catherine Brown Fethero of bel Air. He was preceded in death by sister Betty Jean Maus. Services and Internment will be private. The Jeffrey N.
