Henry Kenneth (Shamer) Shamer

Henry Kenneth ‘Ken’ Shamer, 88, of Sykesville, died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born April 1, 1928 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Garland W. Shamer, Sr. and Cathrine Piquett Shamer. Twice married, he was the husband of the late Margaret Shamer and currently the husband of Helen Shamer for over 30 years. He worked in research and development for the National Starch and Chemical Company and also for General Electric Company. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, going to crabfeasts and bull roasts, soft shell crab sandwiches, dancing with his wife and story telling. He was a member of American Legion Post #223 in Sykesville. He was of the Catholic faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Kenny and George Shamer, Patti Guckenberger, Barbara Darragh, Ken, Danny and Kim Hufham. He is also survived by siblings Evelyn Bankard, John J. ‘Jack’ Shamer, Frank Shamer and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter Brenda Hufham. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-8 pm at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784. Funeral services will be held Monday, 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Deacon Karl Bayhi, officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
