George Laneville Martin

George Laneville Martin, 81, of Frederick, formerly of Sykesville, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at Sunrise of Frederick. Born January 29, 1936 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late George Henry and Emma Laneville Martin. He was the husband of JoAnn Rae Martin, to whom he had been married for 58 years. George worked for the federal government for 34 years, first for the Social Security Administration and then for the Health Care Finance Administration. After his retirement from the government, George worked for MilSpec/World Fasteners in Hampstead for over ten years. George graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a degree in physical education, and in his younger days, George enjoyed playing many sports. George also enjoyed playing horseshoes with his neighbors, gardening and taking care of his property, and vacationing in Wisconsin, visiting his son and many other relatives. George was a lifelong Wisconsin sports fan and longtime member of the Freedom District Lions Club and Deer Park Bible Church. In addition to his wife JoAnn, he is survived by son, Gary L. Martin and his wife Stephanie, grandchildren Pat, Ben, and Katie; daughter Sherri L. Grant and her husband Jim, granddaughter Jessica; and daughter-in-law Cindy Martin, grandsons Carl and Clint. He was preceded in death by brother John Martin and son Gregory A. Martin. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2–4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Cantville officiating.
