Alden Spencer (Cheek) Jackson

Alden S. (Cheek) Jackson, surrounded by her loving family, passed into eternal life on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Long View Nursing Center in Manchester Maryland. She had suffered the effects of Alzheimer’s disease for the last eight years. She was born in October 1930 to the late Lee A Cheek and the late Madge (Cooper) Cheek in Harford County, Maryland. She was educated in Bel Air area schools and graduated from St Mary’s Female Seminary-Junior College, St Mary’s City, Maryland. She had worked as a teacher in Carroll County Schools and as a systems analyst at the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn. She was a long-time member of Kiwanis Club of Westminster and was a charter member and served as a deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the Woman’s Club of Westminster and a former member and Elder at Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at the Westminster Library, Shepherd’s Staff, and at Carroll County General Hospital. She is survived by five children: Leslie (John Simpson), Mary, Susan (Joseph Getty), David (Lisa), and Scott (Kathy). She is survived by thirteen grandchildren: Emily Simpson, Jennifer Simpson (Jon Carter), Susanna Simpson (Adam Kanner), Justus Getty (Sarah), Nathan Getty, Laura Getty, Emma Getty, Madison Getty, Samuel Getty, Rachel Jackson, Daniel Jackson (April), Hannah Jackson, and Selia Jackson. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Josephine Getty, Gabriel Jackson, and Lillian Getty. Her former spouse, Donald Jackson, survives her. She is survived by a brother, Donald Cheek (Ida) and his family. Per her wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of her immediate family.
